24˚36˚ was initially set up as a self-publishing venture which then grew in scope to one dedicated to showcasing and promoting visual artists with heritage from the subtropics and tropics*.

We are artist-led; supporting and providing a platform for our artists, amplifying their craft, audience, ideas and stories. We are focused on becoming the publishers that we were looking for ourselves.

24˚36˚ is independently Black and Brown-owned with five percent of each book’s profits going towards causes and efforts which are important to each artist and that support grassroots visual arts.

* The world’s tropical regions aren’t precisely defined as they have differing geographic, astronomical, political, meteorological and cultural meanings.

Our definition is: the countries between the equator to the 24th parallels (the tropics) and from the 24th parallels to the 36th parallels (the subtropics) and which are in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Therefore these are countries from where our artists must have all or some family heritage.

Please note the exclusion of Europe, meaning we do not publish artists who solely have European heritage - this includes artists in former colonies including the USA, Australia and Argentina who solely have European heritage.
